Multi-realization of IT value in complex platforms: towards a human-centered digital technology development model

Based on the growing interest in large-scale digital platforms and to address the lack of rigorous theoretical frameworks in this field, Solli-Sæther and co-authors published 1 of 2 the MUIT model in the MIS Quarterly in 2022. The MUIT model offered the missing constructs and proposed interrelationships among them. These insights explain how multiple actors can collaborate, collectively generating greater value than any single actor could achieve independently. A natural next phase involves empirically validating and illustrating these constructs and relationships, providing concrete examples of both challenges as well as good practices supporting such value creation and realization. By using empirical data from two cases studies within the health and welfare sector, our aim is to introduce a human-centred perspective into to the managerial and political discourse surrounding the development of large-scale government IT platforms.
