Sammendrag
Clinical processes can be characterized as problem solving activities, and are poorly served by traditional workflow systems. The breakdown of the clinical process into subsequent tasks and designing process support as a means of supporting these tasks and the control flow between them is not a promising route towards process support in healthcare. We suggest that a more promising avenue is to create co-operation support through transparency. In this paper, we develop the concept of transparency in healthcare, and particularly transparency in patient trajectories. We then explain how transparency may provide support for co-operation, using an example from a study at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, US. We will also indicate how the approach sketched here will be developed in a large four-year research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
