Sammendrag
The book is written as a text book for the the Vitenskap og rasjonalitet-part of examen facultatum at the University of Oslo (and is in Norwegian). Its overarching theme is the nature of rationality and the human rational capacity, with particular emphasis on studies from contemporary cognitive science. Topics include: the relationship between scientific research and societal values; the classical conception of scientific rationality as based on following normative rules; tacit knowledge and skills; common sense; naturalised epistemology; observation and language-understanding; common sense physics and psychology; communication; categorisation and prototypes; shortcomings in human inference and reasoning capacities. Though written for a particular course, the book also pursues a distinctive argumentative line and will be of general interest to philosophers, psychologists and others concerned with the impact of scientific findings about the mind on normative questions of rationality.
