Sammendrag
This is a textbook describing the processing of primary and secondary raw materials. Primary raw materials are defined as those coming fro m mining operations of some sort while the secondary will come from some kind of waste. The book is based on lectures given to mining and environmental students during some decades at the former Norwegian In stitute of Technology now NTNU. The students are therefore supposed t o have a background in mathemathics, chemistry, mineralogy, and physi cs. The book is divided into 6 main chapters, excluding the introduct ion. The chapter general processing, contains particle technology in air and water including particle diescription, sampling, comminution , storing and transportation. The chapter separqation methods include s the generally used mineral processing methods starting with separat ion based upon particle size and even inclucding some hydrometallurgy . The mathemathical tools to analyse a separation process are explain ed. The chapter planning and operation of processing plants give some insight in flowsheet drawing, arrangement of equipment, quality asss urance, plant eccopnomics, testing methosds and working environment. One chapter is dedicated to external environment, water chemistry-epe cialllly when sulphides are present, and talings disposal. A short ch apter is given on instrumentation (mainly for particulate solids syst ems) and process control. Fianlly a chapter is given showing the rela tionship between mineral processing methods and oil well drilling flu id technology.
