How clean is clean? This essential question in environmental protection is answered in different ways throughout the world. Authorities in any responsible country have established laws and regulations to control outlet from human activities. Outlet limits vary from one country to another as does the methods for monitoring the outlet. Data collected can not be compared without knowing the measurement method and the measurement chain. In June 2001 I was invited to have a glimpse at how US authorities are organized and require monitoring of outlet from human activities to be done.
