Sammendrag
Coastal heathland is a complex of vegetation types made by man, threatened by the cessation of traditional land use such as burning, grazing and scything. Heathland covers a large part of the total area on Brakstadøyene, and these islands are among the few areas in this region where sheep still graze both winter and summer. A management plan is proposed for Måsøya and Skogøya, based on investigations of vegetation and earlier use. The investigations include species inventory (also on Skogøya), vegetat ion analyses and vegetation mapping. The aim of the plan is to maintain the grazing potential and the landscape values on Måsøya and Nordøya. The number of sheep must be kept at approximately the same level as today and some areas of heathland must be b urned. The development of shrubs and trees must be kept under control, and clearance may be an option. The effects of the management should be followed in the future.
