Accidental actions. Background to NORSOK N-003

This report is prepared as background notes to the NORSOK N-003 Standard. The purpose is to explain the basis for the accidental actions referred to in this standard, and give some more information about which analyses that would be required. Also, examples of accidental actions used in design are given. Nor information about the structural analysis required to predict the consequences of accidental actions is given. NORSOK N-004 deals with this issue. Also background information is given in J. Amdahl's lecture notes on "Response to accidental loads".
