GeoEnhace Consortium Achievements

Sammendrag

GeoEnhance Consortium - Expected versus Accomplished Results. Listing of the intended main results from the FORCE consortium and a description of achievements: 1) Establish a workflow based on inter-well characterization for use in exploration and development settings. The project has been successful in outlining a workflow based on hypothetical wells positioned between existing wells that can add different geological scenarios to the established interpretation based upon existing wells. In the Glitne Field example(Stovas,Landrø and Janbu, 2007) a hypothetical well was chosen at a specific location. A digital wellbore was developed in that location which permitted the calculation of a synthetic seismogram based upon the geological well predictions and up scaling through SBED. A map of N/G and Water saturation estimated from AVO constrained by the hypothetical well and the other wells could then be calculated (Stovas et al. 2006). Due to inadequate human resources a similar example from an undrilled prospect was not undertaken but should not differ in principle from the Glitne Field example. 2) Outline how quantitatively calibrated outcrop information with regional seismic can be instrumental in pursuing the direction towards more quantitative use of outcrop information and more accurate interpretation of depositional scenarios that are left unresolved solely on the basis of 3D seismic. The example shown (Sinding-Larsen et al.2006) demonstrates the ability to create digital wellbores and corresponding synthetic seismograms from outcrop. The Glitne Field example show how this information can be used to constrain N/G and water saturation estimated from 3D seismic. 3) Provide a reservoir characterization framework that each company can customize to their individual needs. The project has successfully introduced the concept of using digital wellbores from hypothetical wells to enhance reservoir characterization. The project has further developed a multivariate well log interpretation scheme (Brandsegg et al.2007 & 2010) that allows for the splitting of NPHI well recordings into five independent heterogeneity processes and the subsequent estimation by the Eckhart Young theorem of the respective contribution to NPHI of each process at each recording interval in the well. The project has further investigated the seismic response of thin-layer reservoirs and reviewed the research on the attenuation in a thin-layer medium and its potential links with permeability (Stovas et al.2009 & 2010). The project has opened several new research avenues that hold promise to lead to significant and important results within both academic as well as industrial research. In spite of the promising consortium results, it was, however, decided to continue the consortium at the end of its 3 year timeframe with a low level of activity until a mew revitalization could be initiated due to increasing difficulties in assuring adequate human resources for the ongoing research activities. The GeoEnhance executives would like to thank the consortium members Det norske, Dong E&P Norway, Hydro Oil & Gas now a defunct division of Norsk Hydro and Statoil for their financial and in kind support. In addition, we would like to thank the individuals who regularly attended meetings and showed interest in the revitalization of this project.
