Sammendrag
During the last decade the concepts of lean and agile supply have become rather common as well as the so-called push-pull strategy. A rather extensive literature has emerged around such problems dealing with concepts like innovative products versus functional products, where in the value chain should one change from lean to agile supply chain strategy, how to deal with forecasts for innovative products, and the design and time to market for such products. The present paper has the objective to create the qualitative link between the available agile and hybrid supply chain literature and operation research models, relevant and tailored for the fashion apparel industry. Our goal is to develop a strategic planning tool that evaluates the value of supply chain flexibility and helps creating accurate response to uncertain demand by reducing uncertainty, circumventing uncertainty and hedging against uncertainty. A case study is performed in co-operation with a Norwegian firm producing and distributing fashion textiles worldwide.
