Tacit to explicit conversions and changes in productivity

Sammendrag

In an ongoing research project at Aker Verdal, a company producing steel jackets for the offshore industry in peripheral Norway, we have been trying to establish a link between knowledge and productivity. In the project we are analyzing how the firm acquires and develops knowledge capital by looking at: ? Identification: What are the central knowledge processes that take place ? Measurement: What kind of indicators can be used ? Management: How is management of knowledge integrated in the general management of the firm We have done an extensive data collection about how knowledge is transferred during the production process. In this work we have come across situations where there seem to be conversions of tacit to explicit knowledge. In this paper we first discuss the concept of tacit knowing and then how a situation of tacit to explicit knowledge conversion can look like and if it is possible to link such a situation to a change productivity.
