An approach to expert system for mapping socioeconomic data

This paper outlines the status of Geographical Information System (GIS) in general and within human geography. The majority of GIS have been targeted at the processing of data relating to the physical environment, both natural and built. More recently, an important and fast-developing application field for GIS, is that of socioeconomic or population-related data. The mapping of socio-economic data, however, involves several steps and among these the fundamental operation: the presentation of one quantitative variable, an operation which still calls for better solutions.
