The concept of culturallandscape: discourse and narratives

The article provides an overview of different ways in which the term cultural landscape has been used. A brief discussion of the role of concepts, discourses and narratives provides a framework. The concept of cultural landscape is discussed in relation to a personal research narrative, historiographical narratives in geography, and a conservation narrative. It is concluded that in recent usages of the concept of cultural landscape there can be identified a number of parallel types of narrative that reflect different methodologies and serve different research agendas and power interests.
