Translation of paper title: Who was Elisabet Johannesdaughter Sconvg? Did she come from Scotland or [from] Skånevik [in Hordaland, western Norway]? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Summary: Elisabet was married to Torgils Toreson, and they lived on the farm Årvoll, Åkra, Karmøy. Their posterity is numerous. The ancestors of Torgils had farmed Årvoll for several generations. According to oral tradition, Elisabet was one of "the two Scottish girls" who legend says came to Karmøy in a small boat drifting across the North Sea. Oral tradition also says that Torgils was the son of a district judge in Skånevik. These traditions are not in agreement with written evidence. The paper assumes that Sconvg (in a census from 1758) is a misspelling of Sconvig (or Schonvig/Schonevig), and it concludes that Elisabet descended from a minister family in Skånevik, and that she had a brother who was a district judge in Nordfjord. Her father was Johannes Eliasson who, about 1677, married a Danish woman, who died after few years of marriage, and whose name we do not know. Johannes Eliasson (born about 1655) was a ship’s chaplain in the Danish navy, and he was a son of Elisabet Lauritsd’tr Galtung and Elias Andersson Schonevig, who was dean and pastor in Skånevik.
