Employment Status Preferences among Employed and Self-employed

Sammendrag

The present research investigated employment status preferences among employed and self-employed. Hypotheses regarding the characteristics of those who have intentions to switch employment status were developed. Data was collected using telephone interviews from a random sample of 4,391 adults in Norway. Among employed, the results show that the following factors are associated with intentions to become self-employed: low age, being male, voting conservative, being immigrant to the country, and working a high number of average hours weekly. Among self-employed, the highest proportion of those who prefer organizational employment is found among people with low education and among people with low household income
