How the decision to do e-commerce developed: The tranisition of a concidered problem to an e-commerce solution

Sammendrag

This is a case study of how the decision to do e-commerce developed in three organizations. The case study shows who introduced the idea of e-commerce and how this idea developed. In all these organizations the e-commerce idea has been given a great deal of attention, but not all have adopted it in the way it was intended originally. All three organizations participate in a Norwegian national program (VeRDI) given by SND to help organizations implement e-commerce. This study tells the story of how a problem was discovered and how the problem was altered into a solution where e-commerce was thought to be a part. This is done by interviewing people in the participating organizations, in SND and in the hired consulting-firm which was responsible of giving the idea its direction. The study uses sensemaking, proactivity and creativity to explain the action of the intrapreneur. The findings may be interesting for employees who reveal a problem to be solved by the mean of an IT innovation, or others who benefits form such initiatives.
