Conditions for entrepreneurship and ownership: Differences regarding rural and urban municipalities

The local environment where a potential entrepreneur lives, influence on his/hers choice regarding becoming an entrepreneur and on the likelihood of owning a successful business. This paper investigates how rural / urban municipality influences on conditions for business start-up and business ownership. This investigation extends research on regional entrepreneurship by linking entrepreneurship to the entrepreneur¿s skill base, entrepreneurial role models and to the business environment surrounding the entrepreneur. This study focus is on how the entrepreneur¿s environment limits and broadens the perceived business opportunities and the cues the entrepreneur act upon. The study investigates the differences in conditions for entrepreneurship among inhabitants in rural municipalities and urban municipalities. This study indicates differences in the conditions for entrepreneurship between inhabitants in rural and urban municipalities. The study also presents differences between conditions linked to business start-up and business ownership.
