Hospitals and laboratories that analyze pharmaceuticals and drugs of abuse perform an enormous number of routine GC and HPLC analyzes world wide per year. In order to improve the accuracy and precision of these analyses, and to ensure reproducibility, internal standards are added to the samples. The aim of this project is to develop an inventory of about 20 internal standards, organized in a matrix, that can be used for a large number of analytes. This will work as a toolbox, helping method developers to choose the right internal standard for each analysis. So far, a first generation of compounds have been synthesized and tested for usability as internal standards for a limited number of analytes
