Sammendrag
Ethnic diversity in a major hospital in Norway is examined in this article. Through interviews, we gained insight into leaders' understanding of the diversity ideals of top management. In terms of different cultural habits, leaders strongly support ideals of diversity, but when it comes to equal rights to climb the ladder the situation is one of benign indifference. However, the analysis also demonstrates that the wearing of a proprietary hijab at the hospital is seen by these leaders as problematic. The article points out that this controversy may not be negative, but, quite the contrary, in a sociological perspective it may increase social integration.
