Summary
The purpose of this project has been to examine cultural changes concerning the relationship between work and leirsure time. The main thesis is that modern people are gradually becoming more constrained in their leirsure time, while more free at work. I have wanted to challenge the widespread opinion that more leirsure time should imply more freedom to modern people. Aesthetics and utility play important roles for people's freedom, both at work and in their leirsure hours. Utility is commonly associated with technology. The discourse between technology and aesthetics therefore plays a decisive role for freedom. My thesis is thus intimately linked to the analyzes of this discourse. The perspective of this project takes as its starting point contemporary changes in value orientations. The philosophical contribution of the analyzes concerns conceptual changes in the discourse between work and leirsure time, and between technology and aesthetics. An essential framework has been working life research, which for a long time has been concerned with the relationship between human beings and technology. A workshop has been arranged, with participants from several faculties within NTNU, from SINTEF Teknologiledelse, and from Dialogseminaret in Stochholm. The prosject has been associated with the multifacultary project "Fabrikken". One main result is the publication "Myter om frihet, arbeid og teknologi" in the 2nd publication from "Fabrikken": Og bakom larmer fabrikkene".
