SPACE ME – arts and science combined in storyline
Extended workshop (2 h 10 min)
This workshop explores artistic entrances to a storyline developed around the theme ”man in universe”. During the workshop we give examples of art as inspiration for exploration in the storyline. We also share a science loop about the universe, which in itself demonstrates arts and science combined. Together with the participants we elaborate the fictive frame and create characters connected the theme explored: man in universe. Finally we connect the storyline to memories told by the participants and played back through playback theatre.
The storyline SPACE ME originally was developed for 13 years old school children, and has also been used in teacher education. The storyline emphasises and investigates artistic entrances to inquiry based learning.
SPACE ME is a research and development project at the Programme for Teacher Education at NTNU University in Trondheim, carried out in 2011-12. The R&D project explores the learning potential in combining art and science. In the workshop we will share some of our experiences of the project so far.
The workshop team consists of teachers, artists and teacher educators. Read more about SPACE ME at www.ntnu.no/plu/space-me (in Norwegian).
