The QUALinCLINstud project addresses the urgent need for improved quality and efficiency in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses in nursing home placements. This will be achieved through a novel, collaborative, co-productive, social innovation and learning process between the nurse education system, student nurses and clinical care institutions for older people. This project aims to improve quality and efficiency in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses by building a knowledge base to inform the development of an innovative web-based supervision and assessment program targeting quality improvements in nursing home placements. More specifically, the innovative web-based supervision and assessment program will improve and stenghten (1)Student nurses learning experience and critical thinking skills (2) Nurse mentors supervision and assessment competence, and (3) Nurse teachers assessment tools. The QUALinCLINstud project we will employ a variety of research strategies, including questionnaires, interviews and observations, tageting a multiple stakeholder perspective - towards providing a comprehensive insight into aupervision and assessment practices. The study will include first year nursing students, nurse mentors and nurse teachers with regard to supervison and assessment practices in nursing home placements. The research project place great emphasis on user involvement. User involvement will be ensured by recruiting two registered nurses as co-researchers for the entire research period. In addition, user panels with key stakeholders groups (e.g student nurses, nurse teachers, nurse mentors) will be astablished and actively involved and consulted throughout the entire reseach period. The research project started in June 2018, runs for four years and involve national and international research partners. We believe this project holds great potential for value creation. It may improve quality and efficiency in clinical supervision and assessment practices, strengthen collaboration between stakeholders, contribute to increase students nurses learning experience and provide early support of the development of national supervision and assessment tools which are currently lacking in Norway.
